Mrs. Debbie Yacyk, School Counselor

It has been my pleasure to be the School Counselor at West Amwell School since 1990.  I thoroughly enjoy working with such wonderful students, caring families and supportive staff members.

I grew up in West Trenton, where I continue to reside with my husband and two daughters.  Even though I enjoy being a West Amwell Wildcat, my favorite cat is our pet, Sassy.  I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my daughters dance, reading, going to the beach and collecting bears.

I attended Trenton State College, (now The College of New Jersey) for a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling.  While teaching I decided to pursue my counseling degree to enhance children’s academic success on an affective level. This has given me the opportunity to help children gain confidence, develop their character, overcome obstacles and reach their fullest potential.

Each school year I am devoted to providing our students with a positive and caring environment in which to grow.  dyacyk@westamwellschool.org

School Spirit Day

Island Day

"Cool Cat" announces:  School Spirit Day
Wednesday - June 11, 2008
Island Day

We are having our "Wildcat Program" assembly on that day.

Please plan to wear an "island" theme outfit.  Some ideas include wearing flowered shirts, leis, straw hats, visors, sunglasses, or any other creative ideas that you can come up with.

Congratulations on making this year a success by learning the
"Six Pillars of Character".

Mrs. Yacyk spoke to the wildcats about Responsibility and Fairness, our pillars for this marking period.

3rd and 4th grades were the winners this marking period.
They collected the most wildcat tickets during the second marking period by demonstrating acts of responsibility and fairness.  The teachers were given the honor of unveiling the responsibility and fairness banners during the assembly.

Third Grade performed a catchy "Responsibility Rap".

"I am re-spon-sible so that I can be cool.
Oh, I'm re-spon-sible at home & at school
In life, I am, I'll be
ME."

The 5th grade classes made books for the
Kindergarten library.

"Fair Looks Like..." was authored and illustrated
by Mrs. McKee's class.

SCHOOL  SPIRIT  DAY
was celebrated on February 13th highlighting
National Random Acts of Kindness week February 11th - 15th.

2nd and 4th grades were the winners this marking period.
They collected the most wildcat tickets during the second marking period by demonstrating acts of respect and caring.  The teachers were given the honor of unveiling the respect and caring banners during the assembly.  Each grade level shared what activities they performed to show acts of kindness.

Preschool - Shared cocoa with their teachers.
Kindergarten - Made Valentines for "Meals on Wheels"
1st - Shared cookies and poems with staff.
2D - Made breakfast for the bus drivers.
2K - Made cards for their 5th grade buddies.
3rd - Share candy with the staff.
4th - Made "Welcome Packs" for substitute teachers.
5th - Wrote letters to the soldiers in Iraq to let them know they are not forgotten.
6th - Made cards for hospital patients.

6th grade also made a special presentation to Mrs. Yacyk.

They surprised her with flowers and made posters describing all the wonderful values they have learned from her and her character lessons.

Mrs. Yacyk was very touched and says, "This was a rewarding and enjoyable week for all!"

Students, keep working hard to earn those wildcat tickets during the 3rd marking period!

SCHOOL  SPIRIT  DAY  WAS  A
 BALL!
West Amwell School was filled with excitement and good sports on November 21st, School Spirit Day!  The theme was "Sports Day".  Mrs. Yacyk was so proud of her wildcats sporting jerseys from their favorite teams or apparel representing their favorite sport.  Students gathered in the Multipurpose Room to enjoy and learn from presentations by fellow wildcats.

Good Sports
Dr. Fay and Mrs. Morillo proved to be good sports donning apparel from their favorite teams.  Dr. Fay was so proud to give a shout-out to the World Series Champion Red Socks.  Mrs. Morillo, while happy for Dr. Fay's team, sported her Yankee's jersey as she is a long-time fan of the team.  West Amwell is proud of all of the team players.

The theme for the 2nd Marking Period is "Respect and Caring".
Students, keep working hard to earn those wildcat tickets!
