M  artha is my name; it was my aunt’s name, also my grandmother’s name, my great grandmother’s name, and my great-great aunt’s name (it’s a family name).

A  rcheologist is what wanted to be more than anything else, that is after I wanted more than anything else to become a doctor, but before I wanted to be a world famous dancer or politician.

R  eading – I LOVE IT!  Especially mysteries or books about history.

T  wo sons have I – Janek and Adam  - I think they’re marvelous (they’re both in college – Yikes!)

H  annah is my daughter – also absolutely marvelous (she’s in high school – double Yikes!)

A  rtist – that’s what my mother is,.  My aunt Martha is a trained classical cellist and pianist. My father is a businessman’s businessman – sometimes I think he feels a bit befuddled.   I grew up on a steady diet of all kinds of art and music, and it was FABULOUS (even if sometimes a little chaotic).

K  ubik is my last name.  It’s Polish, as is my husband Jan.  Would you believe it?  We met in New York City at a demonstration (of all places) in support of the workers jailed in Poland, when it was still communist, during martial law.   This was indeed a while ago.

U  ntil I moved to New York after college, I had a southern accent.  Not unusual since my family has lived in North Carolina for the past two hundred sixty years.  Yes indeed, Greensboro, North Carolina (aka, the Old North State) is where I’m from and most of my family.

B  oth Jan and I, and our children love our Lambertville home.  We have lived in New York, Ohio, North Carolina, and Poland – but for all of us, our hearts and home can be found not far from the banks of the Delaware River  in Lambertville, New Jersey

I  have worked as an editor, and a political activist  I have taught in college and in high school, even in a Montessori school.  I have worked in five states and in two continents – but where I am now, in West Amwell Elementary Township School working with students who never fail to amaze me in so many ways – is by far the best place to be.

K indness, care and compassion are traits I want to become such an integral part of me  that they will be present in every interaction I have.
