Preschool

Program Description
The West Amwell Elementary School's Preschool Program provides developmentally appropriate activities to children ages 3-5 who have been identified as Preschool Disabled.  The activities included in our daily schedule are designed to develop language, social relationships, cooperative and imaginative play, fine and gross motor skills, creativity, and pre-readiness skills.  Implementation is accomplished through a variety of child-centered activities, based on integrated thematic units, that enhance learning and support the N.J. Preschool Expectations: Standards of Quality.

Since each child is an individual and possesses individual strengths and weaknesses, instruction is based on their needs.  Our goal is to give the children the opportunity to grow and mature at their  own level while working, playing, and sharing in small group situations.  Students may also receive additional related services as specified in their IEP.

Communication is an essential component of the West Amwell Preschool.  A communication log is sent home daily.  Any question or concern that is important to you is important to us, as well.  With your help, we can offer a program designed to meet the needs of each child so that he or she will grow emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually in an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and support.

I have been a special education teacher at West Amwell School for seventeen years.  Ten of those years were spent teaching in the Resource Center full-time.  For the past seven years, I had the pleasure of working as the teacher of the Preschool Disabled Classroom in the morning and the Resource Center in the afternoon.  I love welcoming the children to our family at West Amwell, and watching them progress through the years.

I grew up in Hunterdon County, and continue to reside there with my husband, three children, dog, two cats, and fish.  When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and pets.  I love to read and relax on the beach.

I attended Kutztown University and graduated with dual certification in Special Education and Elementary Education.  At the present time, I am working on receiving my Master’s Degree in Education.  My mission as a teacher is to design a program to meet the needs of each child so that he or she will grow emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually in an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and support.
